Why is the Supreme Court holding hearings on individual 401k plans?

The courts may find that participants in 401(k) and other retirement plans can file lawsuits claiming their accounts were mishandled.

Arguments are under way to question whether or not participants can sue soley to enforce the rights of the plan, but not to recover losses incurred by an account.

The case is all about the plans mishandling employee requests, which happens all the time.
