Where do I start? I have NO business background. I'm in school and I've realized that I don't want to be an Engineer. Books? Good blogs? News Papers?

I'm at Queens University studying Engineering. I'm from a hick town in northern ontario and my family doesn't know anything about busyness. I went to a presentation by Bain & Company and I've realized that I love business. I've been reading the business section of the Globe and mail (one of canada's papers) and I've realize that a lot of the background that is assumed by the articles is lacking in my own mind.

How should I learn more about business?

Ian

Just like chris-lott said above, you are lucky to have a degree in engineer, which gives you a great math background and mind agility, perfect for a start. That´s why you souldn´t quit. I will tell you my experience. I love business and finance, but when I finished high school one of the biggest universities in my country offered me a full scholarship but just for an economist degree. I hated the first two years in school because there were no business involved in economic theory, now I love it because it has helped me to understand things that otherwise I would have no idea. I know that my story can´t be compared to yours but you will see that engineering will be useful in anything you want to learn.
Anyway, back to the question, a good place to start is news and theory so here´s a small introduction to business:
http://www.gurusoftware.com/GuruNet/KnowledgeBase/Business/GeneralTheory.htm
and theese are some reliable news websites:
www.reuters.com
www.bloomberg.com
www.nytimes.com
www.businessweek.com
Remember, you don´t need to understand immediately everything you read, it will take some time. You should start searching on the web and books for terms you don´t know.
I hope this was any help for you. Good Luck!

Communities such as this are a good place to start. Subscribe to business magazines, read the journal every day, watch CNBC etc. Immerse yourself in the business culture.

Luckily for you, you have a degree in engineer which will open doors just about anywhere in this job market. Have you considered finding a job as an analyst? Becoming an analyst will enable you to quickly learn the ropes surround the business world and networking in the community.

Best of Luck & Welcome!
