What is the marketing idea behind Hang In There Jack?

I just saw a commercial for Jack in the Box that leads me to the website hangintherejack.com. Sadly, the site doesn't load. I'm curious, what is the marketing idea behind Hang In There Jack?

  1. bahellman: By the way, the Hang In There Jack (hangintherejack.com) commercial has Jack getting hit by a bus with all the pieces from his head flying off. The viewer is left not knowing if Jack is dead or alive. I'm going to have to guess Jack stays living :)

The idea behind Hang in There Jack was a viral marketing campaign that probably cost over 5 million dollars to produce which resulted in a huge utter failure after the web servers crashed during the super bowl.
