What is the Gas Tax, John McCain keeps mentioning he wants to eliminate over the summer for an immediate economic stimulus?

there is both the Federal and a state tax. In Michigan that state tax is quite high, I cant remember the exact amount,but I think it is somewhere around 39 cents. However the federal gas tax is even higher, I think it is over 18cents a gallon. some of the gas tax is added right in ie so much a gallon and some is somewhat hidden. So it is actually higher than the 18cents, but you wont find anyone that canor will tell you. that is why it is funny to here politicians complain about the high price of gas but you raely hear any of them talking about the taxes they voted on that adds to the price.
