What are the most important things to know before buying a franchise?

I'm interested in getting into the franchise business with this new exciting company however, I want to protect myself from the possibility the deal being scam. What should my homework be before buying a franchise?

Due Diligence...
Most important thing is to understand how is the franchiser making money. After that, make sure you understand your supply system, your expansion opportunities & restrictions, and then fees and upfront costs.

Also, make sure this exciting new company is going to stay exciting.
