What action can the US take to protect citizens from poisoned Chinese products such as Aquadots?

"Aquadots recall after chemicals in toy converts to date rape drug"

Is there anything exported from China that isn't doing more harm than good? The latest Aquadots incident greatly overshadows the previous lead Mattel incident. Yet, the US government isn't doing anything? Why

  1. LifesaPretzel: Shockingly, if you google for AquaDots, there are still sponsored search results showing up to sell the product.

Its a free economy. People need to stop buying Chinese products until companies can give assurance that products are safe.

The Aquadots story is shocking. Poisonous small balls that look exactly like candy contain the date rape drug when ingested. How does something like this happen?

Stop buying AquaDots. You can send a message buy never buying this companies products again.

Couldn't agree with LifesaPretzel more.

Make a decision to stop purchasing products made from China (it will be tough but you can do it if you really want), until they improve their reputation. When they take the steps to prove that they have cleaned up their act, and when the reports of toxic toys stop flooding the media, then you should purchase products made from China again.

  1. jyoseph: and actually, now that I read my answer I should add this. (because my answer didn't really give my opinion on how to stop this).

I think we need some type of, or better, regulation and testing of products when they hit our market. So when the next new toy hits the shelves for the holidays, there ought to be some organization that will test it to ensure consumers that it will not be harmful. I suspect there is already something like this in place. If there is they are not doing a good job.
