USPS misdelivered my $2500 package. Can I make them pay the inurance if my package was tampered with?

I just ordered a $2500 MacBook Pro and it was shipped USPS Priority. The tracking shows that it was delivered successfully and signed by someone other than me, that I dont know... And I dont know where the package is at so I have to wait until after the weekend to call USPS. So obviosly they didnt verify who they were delivering to... Thats one problem. Secondly, if they find and return my package to me what happens if the package was opened and the product was tampered with? Do I have a choice to make them pay the insurance instead of delivering to me an open package? It may not be tampered with so I may not have to deal with any of this, but I just want to know options... And yes it was insured.

You have options with USPS, but it depends on what your package was insured for. Another good option would be credit card insurance. For example, if you ordered the computer using an American Express card your AMEX insurance could cover the computer. Several credit cards offer similar insurance plans, call them up.
