Yes use browser based Meebo: http://wwwe.meebo.com/

Meebo has an iPhone specific Web APP that you'll want to use.

There is also BeeJive, both are fantastic for the iPhone: http://iphone.beejive.com

Thought, I'd prefer an IM client, for now this will have to do. Perhaps come Macworld next week Steve will decide to grace the world with an IM client built in by default to the iPhone. Here's hopin.
