Although they are confused often and often treated as if they are interchangeable, I think reputation and image are two distinct concepts in business.
Image is a more dynamic concept, one that is often held by fewer individuals, and one that changes to adapt to the current preferences of the target audience. When a teacher has a disobedient student, he may want to project a disciplinary and authoritative image, but I don't think he would want to have same reputation.
Reputation, on the other hand, is a more broad concept. A company's reputation may be determined by the prevailing societal beliefs, while their image may differ from one person to the next.
Essentially, I think that an image that it consistently endorsed over and over again can become a reputation. That being said, in business, a company's reputation may be more important than it's image, given that it's longer lasting.
