I would like to know if there is much hazard in giving my employer my account number for a direct deposit?

I called my bank and they said that the only way someone would be able to tamper with accounts is if he/she had a certain license to do this with the account info; and I could easily file a claim and everything can be traced.

Does anyone have much experience with direct deposit pay?

Your bank is right, there is really no reason to worry about direct deposit. Almost every employee at my work uses direct deposits as it has benefits: the money is available in your account faster (no driving a check to the bank or waiting for it to clear to receive the entire amount). Also, the company benefits from not having to purchase stamps to mail every employee's check. I would highly recommend direct deposit.

  1. trackman: Also... I have had direct deposit for at least the last 10 years, and have never had a problem with it. Payroll dept person would be in deep legal trouble if they had anything to do with stealing from your bank account.
