I own a new restaurant. It grossed $800,000 yr. How much should I spend on advertising this upcoming year?

  1. stevelup: "Unfortunately about half of your ad spending will be wasted; you'll just never know which half." That's a tongue-in-cheek way of suggesting that you start spending small - say $500 each- on a couple of different types of campaigns until you find the one(s) that works, then you can ramp up at will. Local is best and referrals are powerful. Do you have a Yelp.com rating?

If your restaurant offers delivery and/or online ordering services advertising could go a long way. If your restaurant is walk in only, and will grow by word of mouth I would spend 10k on flyers and blanket the surrounding neighbor hood with an announcement and coupon or grand opening special, 99 cent drinks or free appetizers for every meal ordered.

in a perfect world it would be between 7-20% depending on your specific business model and marketing plan
