I have a pitch for a televison series however no production will talk to me without an agent or perhaps legal representation, any thoughts?

I'll be the first to admit that I know nothing about the entertainment industry. But why not hire legal representation for the meeting. If you are serious about your pitch you need to take your pitch seriously, and protecting your idea should be included.
