How can I Defend Against The Falling US Dollar?

Comments

  1. chris-lott: The dollar is continuing to be worth less and less compared to currencies in other countries. How can I maintain/grow my purchasing power?

Its funny that you want out of the US dollar when foreigners are now getting in, as the falling dollar makes US companies cheaper to buyout.

To answer your question... I would suggest diversifying into commodities.

That´s the thing. The dollar is continuing to be worth less compared to currencies in other countries, so the best thing you can do is to buy strong currency, Euro for example. If you have doubts about taht maybe you can buy options on currencies, so when the time comes you will decide what to do. Anyway, you can always go to a financial institution and ask for advice.

Comments

  1. Chivy: However, you should look for rate forecasts and see if in the future the other currencies won´t decline
  2. dNavigator: I disagree. You don't necessarily want to chase the highest currency out there. Don't buy high, buy low. The vast majority of those that try to time the market will fail. Get into a money market fund and ride the average rate.
  3. Chivy: You´re right, not "necessarily". But if you buy low expecting it to rise you are speculating not hedging, that´s why I suggested looking for forecasts. If dollar is expected to continue declining and you don´t want to keep losing purchasing power, you might consider more stable assets
  4. Chivy: Anyway, thanks for your comment, it is always a good way of learning.I don´t know it all and I never will
