You should start by setting up an IRA. Take a look at ING Direct or TD Ameritrade to get started. You want to max these out to the point that maximize tax benefits.

IRA Contribution Limits

Year - Age 49 & Below Age 50 & Above
2008 - $5,000 - $6,000

After 2008, the contribution limit will raise in increments of $500 depending upon the level of inflation.

- your risk tolerance,
- your situations,
- what kind of legacy you would like to leave
- your tax bracket
- your current income
