Can I use one tax ID number for two businesses run by only me in the same state?

  1. Taxman: Why would you want to use the same tax ID number for two business? Wouldn't that be an accounting and record keeping problem?

dude, step up and call an accountant for something that granular. it depends what you want out of it but it could certainly set off alarms real fast. if you're just trying to save money on the registration and filing costs.. maybe that 2nd business isn't worth getting into.

like i said, depends on what you want out of it but if that might trigger something in the IRS to take a little bit of a closer look at your entity.
